Fringebusters: Could a Virus Really Rewrite Your DNA?

Fringe returned this week to it’s viral roots with the thirteenth episode of season 1 entitled “The Transformation.” In the opening scene we got to see our weekly redshirt victim turn into a poccupine looking monster on an airplane before our eyes. Needless to say, the plane then crashed and everyone on board, including the monster, died. But upon inspection, they learned that the virus our victim was exposed to completely rewrote his DNA. This week, Popular Mechanics takes a look at the real life science behind this plot with University of California-Irvine virologist Bert Simler.
