According to Walter there is a pattern repeating in the DNA of the organism, but it is a pattern that is too organized and perfect to be natural. Astrid thinks that its an encrypted message of some kind, utilizing a Caesar Shift (an mono-alphabetic cipher that Peter’s never heard of, yet he knows all of the other crazy babblings that Walter mentions).
One of the combinations that the Caesar Shift works out to be is ZFT, which is the name of one of the pattern Cells. Why ZFT would have been encoded into this creature’s DNA is certainly a mystery though.
