If you’re anyone who watches Fringe, chances are you’ve seen the preview that followed “Dream Logic,” which showcased a few scenes from the rest of the season. Specifically, I’m talking about just one little snippet, which showed three Observers — count them, three — sitting around a restaurant table.
We’ve known that there would be an Observer-laden episode coming up sooner rather than later, but this preview confirms it once more. The Observers will appear in numbers during episode eight of the second season, which is titled “August.”
Now, if you’ve read the press release for “The Arrival,” the fourth episode of season one, in which we were introduced to the Observer, you’ll notice that actor Michael Ceveris is credited as “September.” That’s funny, since he plays the Observer.
Now, with another, Observer-centric episode named after a month of the year, you have to think that perhaps “August” refers to another Observer than the one we’ve come to know and love.
Of course, the monthly names hints at the fact that there are perhaps only twelve Observers, though of course that’s only rampant speculation on my part. What do you think the significance is? Let us know in the comments below.

Sam noticed some things that only noticed after viewing the episode ‘Dream Logic’ again. Thanks Sam! The Observer must be tied in with William Bell (Leonard Nemoy) I suspect … hbut I have nope comcrete proof.
Keep up the great work Sam and pass this show along to anyone you know.
Another option. The observers are the same typ eof biomecchanical android as the shape shifting killers and they have an estimated maximum “lifespan” of about one month. Thus each replacement is given the name of the month they are considered viable. They may remain functioning afterthat month which could explain how you can see more than one.
I’m not sure that they are tied to William Bell. Given that in the two universes are almost duplicates I would expect peple from here to have analogs over there. We know that Peter was brouht over from over there to replace the Walter Prime’s son that died as a child. (I suspect that the trip back and forth is what caused Walter Prime’s mental problems) Perhaps the real villian on the second side is Walter Second. He has a very real reason for wanting to break down the barrier.
Fred, thank you for your commentary. Can you tell me which episode tells viewers that Walter’s son died and was brought over from the other side? I would love to see it because somehow I missed it. I’m not trying to be rude or funny; I just didn’t know. Any info would greatly be appreciated. I thought I remembered every episode. thank you, I really enjoyed your comments. You should be a writer; you’re good.
That episode was the season one finale, “There’s More Than One of Everything.”
References to Peter’s cross-over was made allusion to in the following episodes:
– When Walter visited the ‘original’ Peter’s grave in Season 1, following the death of David Robert Jones. Season 1, Finale.
– When Peter was having nightmares about seeing his dad, then being abducted late at night (which might refer to his memory of being taken by Walter from the other side) in Season 2, Episode 5 (I think).
– When the ‘lady in the video’ (Rebecca) who was dosed by hallucinogens saw a “glow” coming from Peter when she was able to get into her car (with Walter) in Season 2, Episode 4.
One thing to consider is that an apparent ‘child observer’ is found underground in season one. How this will tie into the rest of the hairless group? I have no idea.
If you have not check out the double slit experiment yet, you need too! It explains so much! It references the idea of an Observer as well as a ‘fringe pattern’. I can send you a link, if you like. Or it’s on our website.
Anywho, I was wondering if you have a link to the video that shows the Observer’s sitting around the table together?
Cheers
Sure I do. It’s right at 0:32 of this video: http://www.spoilertv.com/2009/10/new-fringe-promo.html
I don’t think that the Observers are from the alternate dimension…at least, not from the SAME alternate dimension that Olivia visited. I think that they are a third party, more powerful than either of the factions in the coming war, and that they seek to profit somehow from the conflict.
I’m guessing they are either humans from a third (and very, VERY technologically advanced) dimension, or else aliens. After the episode Earthling, we know that there ARE aliens in the Fringe universe, so the observers could be some. Its possible that they are both: a non-human species from another, more distant dimension. I suspect that they are descended from humans to at least some extent, though; the baby observer in Season One seemed to be very much like us physiologically (ie, he wasn’t a lizardman in a suit
).
Also, did anyone notice that the observer’s ray gun in the trailer for August looked a lot like the one the bad guy had in The Arrival? I suspect that their technology came from the same place, wherever that may be.
