As I shared in an earlier article (which was excitingly featured 0n the main page of FOX’s official Fringe website!) the eighth episode of the second season is going to be rife with the show’s mythology, particularly that of its most mysterious bald inhabitant: the Observer. And he’s got friends.
We’ve known that there are multiple Observers ever since we saw the little Observer from season one’s “Inner Child.” It was even hinted that the Observers have some sort of psychic capabilities.
And next week, we’ll be getting some more Observers — at least three more. A recent photograph published in TV Guide revealed three new Observers who will be appearing in the episode, which will be titled “August.” Why? Take a look at the article linked given above for more details, or read the excerpt from it below:
Now, if you’ve read the press release for “The Arrival,” the fourth episode of season one, in which we were introduced to the Observer, you’ll notice that actor Michael Ceveris is credited as “September.” That’s funny, since he plays the Observer.
Now, with another, Observer-centric episode named after a month of the year, you have to think that perhaps “August” refers to another Observer than the one we’ve come to know and love.
But wait! There’s more! The names actually do have a meaning, according to executive producer Joel Wyman. “There is a hierarchy within their group that is implied by their names,” he said of the Observers. Now, September is the ninth month of the years, which perhaps means that the Observer named September isn’t exactly at the top of the food chain (assuming that January is at the top and December at bottom).
As for whether the Observers are good or evil, “They’re somewhere in the middle,” executive producer Jeff Pinkner shared. “There’s not necessarily either good or bad.”
And let’s not forget the promo for next week’s episode, which explicitly states that the Observers have been watching us for thousands of years.
Who else wants to see a flashback of the Observers watching Caesar be killed, or calmly gazing over a Civil War battlefield?
We’ll get a considerable amount of answers to all our burning Observer questions in next week’s episode, though. The episode will answer “more questions than you thought you had,” says Wyman.
I don’t know, Joel. I’ve got a lot of questions.

Very excited for this episode.
[...] We’ve seen someone Walter calls “the observer” in previous episodes. And apparently this observer was credited as “September” during Season 1. Now, apparently, we learn that there are more observers — perhaps one named August. Click here to learn more about this theory. [...]
